INSTALLATION TIPS
MAKE A PLAN.
Plan your Lash-It™ loop placements so your bulky, large and heavier gear goes near the yoke. This makes balancing while portaging much easier. Place more Lash-It™ loops in the other bays for smaller items.
SECURING SKINNY ITEMS LIKE PADDLE SHAFTS & FISHING RODS.
Unhook the quick release hook and make a wrap of the elastic cord around the skinny item, then adjust the cord tension and secure the quick release hook again. You'll find this method really holds those skinny objects firmly.
SECURING YOUR WORKING PADDLES.
Working paddles being those that you use to propel your boat. Before our canoe leaves the water, our working padles are secured with Lash-Its and ready to portage. Tandem canoes with open ends (no flotation): Try to find a way to gently wedge the paddle blade into the bow or stern to hold that end of the paddle. Then find a good resting position for the paddle shaft against the hull whether it be in front of, on top of, or under the seat. Be cautious of under seat mountings. Most canoe seats are held in place with bolts that protrude below the seats and can tear up your nice paddle. If you use an under seat setup, do something to cover the offending bolts. Secure the shaft end with one Lash-It™ loop placed near the seat. If your canoe has end flotation cavities or you can't find a decent way to wedge your paddle blade in the ends, then place a well fit Lash-It™ loop near the blade end (6" to 12"inward) to hold it to the hull. Get the fit so you can easily slide the paddle blade with minimal slop. You may want to consider eliminating the quick release hook on this loop if it interferes with the paddle blade sliding in and out.
SECURING BENT SHAFT PADDLES.
Most often bent shaft paddles are best secured in the end of canoes with the bend pointing away from the hull, and if secured near the yoke, then with the bend laid into the curve of the hull. Test your setup to see which way your bend shaft paddle lays best.
BEGIN THE INSTALLATION.
Set the object you want to secure against the hull and find where it rests best. Then figure where the Lash-It™ loops will go to secure that object. Mark around where you want the Lash-It™ cleats to go with pieces of masking tape. Follow the instructions included in the kit to complete the assembly. Go to the detailed installation insrtuctions.
